What can I say about Colin? He flew out of my imagination full grown and as cocky as they come. Irish to the core of his soul, he’s been a Police Officer with the University of Virginia Campus Police force for ten years. He is the Sergeant in charge of the ‘Special Assault Unit’ and as the head of this unique department he deals with some of the most harrowing cases in Charlottesville.
On campus he’s a legend, known as much for his tender compassion toward victims for his iron-cold loathing of their attackers. He roars into campus trouble areas on his motorcycle, putting every student within earshot on notice. They’d be wise to cooperate and foolish to resist.
His professional life revolved around helping these victims, supporting them through their pain and despair, seeking justice for the crimes committed against them. His personal life consisted of one-night-stands and short term liaisons which allow no closeness what-so-ever. He’s handsome, arrogant, brilliant, and sings like an angel fallen straight from heaven. Fiercely protective of his independence and totally un-interested in romance, he is a poster boy for the hardcore bachelor existence.
The last thing he wanted, expected, or needed was a brown-eyed, studious, slow talking, Title IX consultant named Joshua Abrams who walked into his office and his life, turning everything he’d ever believed about love inside out.
I love Colin. I felt his confusion as he began to realize that Joshua had become more than just another casual sex partner. I felt his pain when the terrible memories which had created his emotional barriers began to awaken within him. And I felt his fears both of losing his freedom and of losing Joshua crushing him until his bright Irish spirit was nearly extinguished beneath the weight of the complex emotions warring within him.
He’s a complicated, intensely charismatic, deeply confused soul who both desperately needs Joshua’s love and desperately fears his surrender to it.
Watching him during his journey was both troubling and exhilarating. I so much wanted him to have his happy ending, but even I, the author, was unsure at times if he’d permit it to happen. I had to let him guide me, and there were moments when his fear nearly won out over his need for Joshua’s love.
I hope you’ll read ‘Love’s Magic’ and come to know Colin the way I do. I think if you do, you’ll love him too. He truly is unforgettable.
